Welcome...

Welcome to the website of record label Basta Music.

Welcome to Basta's musical universe. Read about new releases and updates on works in progress, listen to audio samples and explore links to Basta artist websites. You can also buy from us directly. Our catalog is deep and diverse.

There is no "Basta sound"—we don't look for artists who fit a specific profile. Basta has never been concerned with the pop charts or gimmicks. We're music enthusiasts and historians who know exceptional quality when we hear it. We focus on new artists and landmark reissues other labels overlook. In a business that's obsessed with finding the next flavor-of-the-week, Basta offers artists with timeless appeal.

Novelty-jazz icon Raymond Scott composed his Suite for Violin & Piano in 1950, and it was performed just once in his lifetime, at Carnegie Hall. This archival performance is coupled with a contemporary 2006 recording by Ramon Dor and Davide Rossi. Basta will provide restored sheet music with the album.

Erik Voermans Hugo Claus: Dichter

Album art Dichter

Flemish literary legend Hugo Claus passed away in 2008. In the final month of his life he gave guitarist Erik Voermans permission to use recordings of the author reading from his own works. These readings have now been underscored with Voermans' ambient guitar settings in lush, literary dreamscapes. Order the CD here.

Sonja van HamelTranscendental Man

Album art Sonja van Hamel, Transcendental Man

Former Bauer vocalist Sonja van Hamel's second solo album, Transcendental Man, was produced by JB Meijers and Ken Stringfellow. A pop purist and keyboardist extraordinaire, Sonja composes and arranges lush soundscapes that swirl around her gorgeous singing. Order album here. More info on Sonja here.

Dusty StrayLight Years Away

Dusty Stray image

Dusty Stray's 2nd Basta album, LIGHT YEARS AWAY, was produced by JB Meijers and Ken Stringfellow. Dusty's twisted take on country-folk music suggests a hillbilly on Mars, writing songs about alien abduction, mermaids, and outsider artist Henry Darger.
